Source Music, in collaboration with Hype Label, launched a new girl band in the middle of 2022. The group called Le Sserafim was a sextet until one of its finest members, Kim Ga-ram, left the band due to certain bullying allegations. From the beginning, the group grabbed its place in K-pop lovers’ hearts. Le Sserafim Debut Album, Tracklist, and Members Introduction
Le Sserafim debuted officially on May 2, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. KST, with the release of a mini-album/extended play (EP) “Fearless,” which has a track length of 14 minutes and 12 seconds. Fearless has five songs in its tracklist, which are as follows: “The World Is My Oyster,” “Fearless (lead track),” “Blue Flame,” “The Great Mermaid,” and “Sour Grapes.” All the tracks in the debut extended play Fearless were written by many composers, but mainly Score and Megatone from the in-house production of Source Music Team 13, who took part in the writing and production sections of every song. It was on March 14, 2022, when Source Music officially announced by revealing the group name and logo that they would debut a new girl band soon.
All the group members were revealed through SNS accounts by posting teasers of each member between April 4 and April 9, in the order of Sakura, Kim Ga-ram, Hong Eun-chae, Kim Chae-won, Kazuha, and Huh Yun-jin. Then the full-length video was also released, titled “We’ar Le Sserafim,” where each member gave their complete introduction. The highlight medley for their debut album was also released on April 26, 2022. Finally, on May 2, LeSserafim debuted with the release of a single with the same name as their debut mini-album, Fearless. Also on the group’s debut day, Le Sserafim held their live debut showcase, where they performed Fearless and Blue Flame.
Why did Kim Ga-ram leave the band?
Now let’s talk about why Kim Ga-ram left or was removed from the group. Kim Ga-ram fell into the controversy of being accused of bullying other students when she was in middle school. Also, certain allegations, like smoking and drinking, became a subject of discussion regarding her group removal. Though initially, HYBE Corporation defended her by saying that someone was trying to spread false rumors regarding Kim Ga-ram and adding that all other allegations were false. Later on May 20, HYBE announced that Kim would take a hiatus leave, and it was on July 20 that HYBE announced that Kim Ga-ram would be removed from the group by termination of her contract. Since then, Le Sserafim has promoted itself as a five-member group.
Commercial Performance of Fearless Mini-Album
The pre-order of the Le Sserafim debut mini-album Fearless recorded sales of 3,80,000 copies, and alone on its release day, the sales crossed 1,75,000 copies (later, this record was broken by NewJeans self-titled debut album). Fearless peaked at second position on the weekly Circle Album Charts and third position on the weekly Oricon Japanese Album.
