JYP Entertainment’s competition reality show Sixteen, which aired on Mnet, ultimately led to the formation of a nine-member girls’ band called Twice, which later got the title “The Nation’s Girl Group” in their origin country, South Korea. All the girls in this band are trendy and well-recognized worldwide. Twice Debut Album, Tracklist, and Sales Performance
Twice officially debuted on October 20, 2015, at 6:0 p.m. KST with the release of the extended play (EP) “The Story Begins,” which has a track length of 19 minutes and 55 seconds. The Story Begins has six tracks in its tracklist, which are as follows: “Like Ooh Ahh” (lead track), “Do It Again,” “Going Crazy,” “Truth,” “Candy Boy,” and “Like a Fool.” The lead single Like Ooh Ahh was written and composed by Black Eyed Pilseung (the duo of Choi Kyu-sung and Rhado) and Sam Lewis, while arranged by Rhado alone. All the Twice took part in the reality survival show Sixteen, produced by JYP Entertainment, where 16 girls competed with each other, and out of those, only seven got selected. The show aired on Mnet between May 5 and July 7, 2015. Later, two more members, Tzuyu, were added because she was the favorite girl among the audience, and Momo was selected himself by JYP producer J.Y. Park. This addition finally made Twice a nine-member girl band. Individually, between October 12 and October 15, all the members of Twice were introduced via the SNS account of the JYP.
On October 16, the group dropped an INST. video of the lead single Like Ooh Ahh, and then the next day its highlight medley of Twice’s debut mini-album was also released. Twice also held its first V live on Naver at 8 p.m. KST on October 18. Finally, with the release of Like Ooh Aah, Twice debuted on October 20, 2015. Twice held its live debut showcase on the same day of its debut at AX-Korea in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, where the members performed “Like Ooh Ahh,” followed by the tracks “Going Crazy” and “Do It Again.” Further promotional activities include, on October 22, the group performed for the first time on the show M Countdown, aired on Mnet, where they performed “Like Ooh Ahh” and “Do It Again.” Twice debut mini-album tracks didn’t win any shows.
In terms of commercial performance, The Story Begins peaked at third position on Gaon Charts (now called Circle Charts), forty-third position on Oricon Japanese Charts, and fifteenth position on US Billboard World Album at the weekly level. Within ten days of its release, the EP recorded sales of 17,100, which reached 49,904 copies by the end of 2015. The group has not gone through any kind of lineup change and has made its comeback several times since its debut.
